“Irby Goes Platinum” in Tulsa
Stuart C. Irby Co. Celebrates 20th Anniversary in
Tulsa, Oklahoma
TULSA – Stuart C. Irby Co.’s Tulsa branch
celebrated its 20th anniversary this week with a grand
celebration for customers, employees and vendors. The theme
of the celebration – “Irby Goes Platinum” – reflects
the company’s 20 years of serving the commercial,
industrial, and utility sectors of the Tulsa area.
The Tulsa branch is one of five Stuart C. Irby Co. locations
in Oklahoma. Other branches include Oklahoma City, Enid,
Muskogee, and Idabel. Stuart C. Irby Co.,
based in Jackson, Mississippi, is a major electrical distributor serving customers
in the utility, commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
“This is our way of saying thank you to both our employees
and our customers,” said Stuart C. Irby Co.’s Tulsa branch manager Roy Thornton. The Tulsa branch
sponsored an open house and celebration that included 17 manufacturers that
had been Irby vendors for its entire 20-year history.
Thornton himself has been with Irby’s Tulsa branch since
it opened in 1984. “I was 20 years
old at the time, so it’s a celebration that
I have a deep appreciation for as well,” he said. The
Tulsa branch employs 36 people today, compared to 16
when the facility opened 20 years ago. Stuart C. Irby
Co. employs a total of 650 employees at 34 locations in nine states, including Oklahoma,
Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee,
Florida and New York.
“We are pleased to have been a part of the Tulsa community for the past
20 years,” said company president Stuart M. Irby. “We look forward
to serving the customers in this area.”
Stuart C. Irby Co. set a company record for sales growth during 2003-2004,
and recently launched an effort to re-organize company operations. The
company is ranked 16th (in sales volume) out of the top 250 electrical distributors
nationwide.
“Last year’s success marks the beginning of a new era
of prosperity for us,” said company president Stuart
M. Irby. “Major changes are being implemented to improve sales, efficiency and customer service — not
only in Tulsa, but in all our branch locations.”
